Bespoke Slate Signs

Crafting a Timeless Bespoke Slate Sign for a Cotswolds Design Studio

We created a bespoke slate sign for a distinguished interior design company in the picturesque village of Broadway in the Cotswolds. Known for blending English heritage with contemporary comfort, the studio’s interiors reflect timeless elegance and refined character. These were the same qualities we aimed to capture in the sign.

Premium Slate with a Polished Finish

We began by selecting a high quality piece of natural slate, measuring 1000 by 500 millimetres and 14 millimetres thick. After engraving the lettering, we polished the surface to a smooth, tactile finish. This enhanced the stone’s natural beauty while giving the inscription a crisp and professional appearance, key elements of a truly bespoke slate sign.

Size: 1000 x 500 mm

Thickness: 14 mm

Material: Natural slate

The Engraving Process

Our process followed several essential steps to ensure precision and durability.

First, we designed the inscription digitally and cut it into a thick rubber stencil. Then, we applied the stencil securely to the slate and masked the surrounding areas. Using a controlled engraving method, we cut into the surface to a depth of around 3 millimetres, creating clean lines and a subtle sense of depth. Finally, we removed the stencil and cleaned the surface carefully to reveal sharp and polished details.

Ready for Easy Installation

The sign was designed for secure mounting with four corner holes and supplied with stainless steel screws and caps for a sleek and finished look.

A Lasting Impression

This project demonstrates how a bespoke slate sign can elevate any entrance with both practicality and elegance. Now proudly in place, the sign welcomes visitors with quiet confidence, reflecting the craftsmanship behind it and the enduring appeal of natural stone.
